Education will give long-term benefits to society: VC
PERAMBALUR: Teachers play a crucial role in the areas of dissemination of knowledge in the current-day scenario and character-building process to shape responsible citizens of our country, said the Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, T. Padmanaban.
Delivering the convocation address at the J.R.S and Elizabeth Colleges of Education at Annamangalam near here recently, Dr. Padmanaban said that with the knowledge revolution having impacted the global scenario, the young teachers had a greater responsibility in converting knowledge into wealth. Education was not just a welfare activity but an investment with long-term and perennial benefits to the society.
Underlining the importance of education, he said that the objectives of curricula should be learner-oriented and not examination-centred. Access to education should be made available for all eligible persons with a focus on global perspective, he added.
He appealed to the teacher graduates to play a vital role in moulding the character of the students.
The Chairman of the college, M.J.R. Sekar, presided over the convocation. Earlier, Dr. Padmanaban conferred the degree certificates on a total of 149 students.
