‘Boat Mail' to run on main line

The Railways has revised the timings of the Rockfort express and the Mangalore – Chennai Express from Sunday (August 1). Both the trains will swap their departure timings at Tiruchi junction.

According to railway sources, the Kumbakonam – Chennai Rockfort Express will depart from Kumbakonam at 7.55 p.m., arrive in Thanjavur at 8.25 p.m.; Tiruchi junction at 9.55 p.m.

It will leave Tiruchi junction at 10.20 p.m. and reach Chennai at 5.30 a.m. the following day.

The Mangalore – Chennai Express will arrive at Tiruchi junction at 9.50 p.m. and will leave at 10 p.m. It will reach Chennai at 5.10 a.m. the following day.

Till now, The Rockfort Express departed from Tiruchi at 10 p.m while the Mangalore express departed at 10.20 p.m. The departure timings of both these trains from Chennai Egmore will remain the same – Mangalore Express at 10 p.m. and Rockfort Express at 10.30 p.m.

Meanwhile the Rameswaram – Chennai Express, popularly known as ‘Boat Mail' will be run on its original route, the main line, from Sunday (August 1), after many years.

The train No. 6702 Rameswaram – Chennai Egmore Express which leaves Rameswaram at 5 p.m., will arrive at Tiruchi at 10.30 p.m.; Thanjavur at 11.25 p.m.; Kumbakonam at 12.04 a.m.; Mayiladuthurai at 12.38 a.m.; Chidambaram at 1.19 a.m. and Chennai at 6.25 a.m., the following day.

In the return direction, Train No. 6701 Chennai – Rameswaram Express will leave Chennai Egmore at 9.40 p.m. and arrive at Chidambaram at 1.32 a.m.; Mayiladuthurai at 2.30 a.m.; Kumbakonam at 3.04 a.m.; Thanjavur at 3.55 a.m.; Tiruchi at 5.25 a.m. and Rameswaram at 11.45 a.m., the following day.
