: Burglars struck two houses and a woman was robbed of a gold chain in three separate incidents on Friday.

Burglars broke into a house and stole a gold chain worth Rs.1.90-lakh, stabbing a woman who resisted. Police said C. Sugumari (36) of Ilaththur and her mother-in-law Thangammal were asleep when the thieves entered the house a little past midnight.

Thangammal has been admitted to Tenkasi Government Hospital after sustaining a knife wound in her palm. In another incident, burglars decamped with silver articles worth Rs.50,000 from the house of one Palaniappan (63) of Muthusamy Pillai Street near Palayamkottai Market when he was away in Chennai. In the third incident, two unidentified persons riding a motorcycle snatched a chain, weighing about 40 grams, from Arumugam Ammal (45) of Subramaniapuram near Palayamkottai bus-stand on Saturday.
