A number of roads will be made one-way from today

With this vacation destination getting ready for a spurt in inflow of tourists from May Day, a plan of action has been drawn by the police to streamline traffic. In tune with this, a number of roads would be made one-way from May 1- 4 and during the weekends that follow, according to the Superintendent of Police, T.Senthil Kumar. All vehicles heading towards Mettupalayam and Coimbatore from Ooty would be diverted via Kotagiri.

Stating that vehicles proceeding from Coonoor to Mettupalayam would not be allowed through Burliar, he said that even from Coonoor all vehicles would be diverted via Kotagiri. However, all vehicles heading towards Coonoor and Ooty from Mettupalayam would be allowed via Burliar. Lorries coming to Ooty would not be allowed to come up from Mettupalayam through Burliar or Kotagiri between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) buses heading for the Ooty bus stand from Mettupalayam and Coonoor side would be stopped at Lovedale junction and diverted via Gandhi Nagar and Manjanakorai.

Stating that suitable places have been identified for parking vehicles in various parts of the district, Mr. Senthil Kumar said that all tourist buses coming from the Coonoor side would be diverted to the parking lot near the Aavin complex and all those coming from the Gudalur side would be diverted to the parking lot at Kandhal.

Those coming from Kotagiri would be diverted to the Government Arts College ground.

No parking zones

Pointing out that a number of places have been declared as ‘no parking’ zones, he said that both tourists and locals have been asked not to park their vehicles for a long time at any place.

Haphazardly parked vehicles would be towed away and appropriate action initiated against the owners.
