TIRUNELVELI: The Tirunelveli MLA, N. Maalairaja, inaugurated a road laying work at Pettai near here on Saturday.
After finding most of the roads at Old Pettai area in a worst shape though they were laid just a year ago, traders and autorickshaw drivers’ unions forwarded representations to the officials to relay the road saying the potholes in these stretches were frequently causing accidents, including fatal ones.
Alleging the official machinery to be in no mood to even repair the road and take the contractor to task for failing to ensure the quality of the road, the traders and autorickshaw drivers organised a series of demonstrations.
In this backdrop, Mr. Maalairaja inaugurated the road relaying work at Old Pettai main road, which will be completed at a cost of Rs. 23.30 lakh.
The Assistant Divisional Engineer, Department of Highways, Chidambaram, Junior Engineer, Sikkandar, and others participated.
