Maravaneri Bund Road that was closed for re-laying works was opened to traffic on Saturday after a gap of five months. The Salem City Municipal Corporation began re-laying works on the 585-metre-long stretch of the road in two phases in May. Under Phase I, the work that was undertaken was completed in order to relay 280 metre stretch, while patch work was carried out for the rest 305 metres, under Phase II, and was open to traffic. Civic body officials here said that the fund request had been submitted to the government for consideration, in order to carry out the Phase II work. Re-laying work would be carried out once the amount was sanctioned. Due to presence of potholes, the arterial road that connects the city with Attur, was closed for traffic and vehicles diverted through Maravaneri Extension Road.
