Between Athimarapatti and Sirupadu
Tuticorin: The Minister for Animal Husbandry, P. Geetha Jeevan, inaugurated laying of a new black top road connecting Athimarapatti with Sirupadu, at a function held here on Sunday.
Official sources said that the 4.2 kilometre long road would be constructed on an outlay of Rs. 2.58 crore using the funds earmarked under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
The black top surface would be laid to a width of 3.75 metre along the entire stretch.
A high-level bridge having a length of 60 metres would be constructed in the sector over Koramballam irrigation tank.
Sources said that the new road would help the public to save about 15 kilometres while travelling between Pudukottai and Muthiapuram. Traffic congestion in the sector too would come down.
Besides, farmers from Athimarapatti village would be able to reach the Panchayat Union office at Pudukottai without entering Tuticorin town.
The project would be commissioned before the end of the current financial year.
The Collector, R. Palaniyandi, the Divisional Engineer (Highways), M. Selvaraj, and the Assistant Divisional Engineer (Highways - Rural roads), S. Ovureddy, were present.
