The Thanjavur – Nagapattinam national highway is in a bad condition at Kovilvenni. This poses hardship to the vehicle users proceeding to Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Nagore, and Tirunallar.

N. Kirithika,

Ammapettai

On the way from Kumbakonam to Tiruchi, we use the bypass that connects Thanjavur – Tiruchi NH near Thanjavur. This stretch is in bad condition and should be repaired immediately.

Convenient train timing

We, the people of Tiruvarur, welcome new train services to Mayiladuthurai from Tiruvarur. It would be more useful if there is an early morning train that can leave Tiruvarur around 6 a.m. and reach Tiruchi by 9 a.m. Similarly, a return train from Tiruchi should reach Tiruvarur by 11.30 p.m.Ja.Anand,

Transfer pension

Me and my wife are Central Government pensioners. We were drawing our pension from State Bank of India, Goregaon (West) Branch. We decided to return to our native place Thanjavur. Hence we both gave separate requests to the Chief General Manager, S.B.I. GOREGAON (WEST) MUMBAI. on April 2, 2013 to transfer our Pension A/Cs No 10130593654 & A/C No10130521000 to State Bank of India V.O.C. Nagar, (branch code 04899 Thanjavur). On May 10, 2013, we had been to the SBI, VOC Nagar branch to ensure whether the accounts have been transferred. The officer was cordial and did his best to find out from different counters about our pension. Finally, he told us that we should contact Mumbai office to expedite transfer of pension papers to the Centralised Pension Processing Centre, Chennai. Our efforts to contact Mumbai SBI branch did not materialise. I am 86 and my wife 81 finding it difficult to move about. Where do we go from here?

Road safety

The increase in the number of vehicles in Aranthangi municipal town has been posing a threat to the safety of road users. Two automatic traffic signals that were functioning at Anna Statue and the Kattumavadi Road junction till recently have become defunct now. These signals should be restored immediately.

Turning a deaf ear

The fundamental right guaranteed under our Constitution, for any individual’s privacy is badly invaded, by the latest menace – noise pollution. Loudspeakers are used in political, religious, social and family functions giving scant respect to the apex court’s verdict prohibiting cone speakers and exceeding the permitted decibel. The police and the pollution control board must take to task the erring persons.S.Sridharan,

Useful spending

The CAG’s detection of large-scale misuse of funds, non-payment of wages to the poor, decline in mandays generated, and violation of rules resulting in poor implementation of MNREGA is striking. After convening national-level meeting of project officers of DRDA and ascertaining the practical difficulties faced in the implementation of this programme, the government could scrap it and make use the money to create national assets.R.S. Re-lay road

The Annai Anjugam Nagar Road has not been re-laid or repaired for many years. The only mini bus deployed for this area has not been plying for some months, causing hardship to students. There is no transport facility for the residents of Annai Anjugam Nagar. I request the authorities to relay this road immediately

Lakshmi,
