Every journey starts and ends with a walk. But the space for footpaths has progressively decreased over the years, making walking on Chennai streets dangerous.

Only 20 per cent of the roads have footpaths and 42 per cent of accidents involve pedestrians.

The Hindu,  in collaboration with Transparent Chennai, invites students of Chennai to reclaim their Right to Walk and be part of a unique opportunity to raise awareness about pedestrian issues through poetry, essay, drawing and poster design competitions.

Transparent Chennai will also hold pedestrian awareness workshops. These eventswill culminate in a rally advocating a walkable Chennai. Schools may register at:  dhivya.murugaian@ifmr.ac.in Registration deadline: October 20. For details, contact: +91-9176387065
