District Collector G. Govindaraj on Wednesday inaugurated the distribution of rice at Rs. 20 a kg under a new scheme formulated by the State Government.

Official sources said the rice, available in 5 kg, 10 kg, and 25 kg bags, were being sold through the wholesale outlets run by the Cooperative Department at Tirupur city, Dharapuram, Kangayam, Vellakoil, and Udumalpet.

Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies S. Babu, District Revenue Officer R. Gajalakshmi, and Deputy Mayor S. Gunasekaran, among others, were present at the launching ceremony.
