Measures to strengthen and monitor the city’s sanitation mechanism formed the focus of a review meeting chaired by Mayor A.Jaya on Monday.
Addressing officials of the Corporation, the Mayor made a checklist of related issues that needed to be addressed before the arrival of monsoon . Removal of silt from storm water drains to prevent water stagnation , prompt disposal of garbage in all wards , regular fogging, and completion of all development works were some of the main instructions given at the meeting.
Apart from prepping up the city for the upcoming rains, the Corporation will also be investing significantly in the purchase of a new ambulance for the government hospital and the setting up of a blood bank, along with the provision of basic facilities at the hospital. Besides these, all Corporation dispensaries will be provided with medicines worth Rs.15 lakh, according to the Mayor.
“As an additional precaution to prevent spreading of diseases, the Corporation health officials will inspect butcher shops in the city and condition of fast-foods sold at roadside stalls ,” informed the Mayor.
Maintenance of public toilets and zero tolerance towards public defecation and stringent enforcement of plastic ban across the Corporation limits were also discussed.
