The confrontation between the local MLA V. Ponnupandi of the Communist Party of India (CPI-M) and revenue officials came to an end on Wednesday.

The MLA’s reported assault on Mariappan, junior assistant, over the latter’s alleged reluctance to correct a mistake in the ration card of a woman known to him immediately on Monday led to the boycott of work by the revenue officials in the entire district on Tuesday.

They planned to intensify their agitation in the coming days.

However, the MLA and the Junior Assistant reportedly expressed regret for their conduct at a meeting held in Virudhunagar by the Collector T.N. Hariharan in the presence of office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Revenue Officials Association (TNROA).
