ERODE: Revenue Department employees in Erode went on mass casual leave on Tuesday demanding better pay packages and working conditions.

The officials’ demand include change in nomenclature of junior assistants and assistants to junior revenue inspectors and senior revenue inspectors; payment of enhanced pay and 30 per cent of special pay depending upon nature of work employees are involved in; grant of power to district collector to determine the number of deputy tahsildar vacancies; increase in special pay given to tahsildars and deputy tahsildars; regularisation of employment for those appointed on compassionate grounds; exemption of Revenue Department from the move to reduce office assistants and elevation of record clerks’ posts to junior assistant level. The employees said decisions arrived at in their negotiations with Chief Secretary and Commissioner for Revenue Administration on November 13, 2007 and July 11, 2008 had not been implemented to date, which was the reason for the agitation.
