Funds sanctioned for revamp of first batch of 10 coaches
TIRUCHI: The first rake of the four revamped coaches of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) was flagged off on Tuesday by V. Carmelus, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway, at the Goldenrock Workshop here, where the coaches were reconditioned.
The workshop had dismantled the wooden body of the coaches and rebuilt it with steel on the existing under-frame, besides making various improvements. The Railway Board has sanctioned funds for revamp of the first batch of 10 coaches. Mr. Carmelus said feedback on the modifications would be obtained from passengers to make further improvements to the other six coaches. The body work for the six coaches had already begun.
The Chief Workshop Manager, Goldenrock Workshop S. Rangarajan and other officials were present on the occasion.
