They demand hill, winter allowances for all pensioners

Members of the Tamil Nadu Retired Government Employees Association, the Nilgiris chapter, staged a dharna at the Independence Square here on Wednesday.

Led by the district president of the association, T. Lingaraj, the participants demanded hill allowance and winter allowance for all the pensioners in The Nilgiris.

They also demanded a hike in the assistance being given for surgeries under the Medical Assistance Scheme from Rs. one lakh to Rs. 3 lakh.

Officials placed under suspension for various reasons on the day of their retirement should be reinstated and allowed to retire. Officials who retire on the day before they are due for an increment should be given the benefit before they retire.

A minimum pension of Rs. 3, 050 should be fixed for village assistants, noon meal workers, anganwadi employees and horticulture workers. The government should come out with an order to extend the benefits of pension to all the retire employees.
