TIRUCHI: The Marumalarchi Railway Trade Union (MRTU) has urged the Railway authorities to resume train services between Tiruvarur and Nagore and from Mayiladuturai to Sirkazhi as soon as possible.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, its general secretary C. Kannaiyan said that the new broad gauge track between Tiruvarur and Nagore and from Mayiladuturai to Sirkazhi were ready. Though trial runs to ascertain the strength of the tracks were completed in March itself, train services were yet to be resumed, thus affecting the pilgrims visiting holy shrines in Nagapattinam district, farmers, students, office-goers and the general public. The union wanted the Railway administration to resume the services after conducting the mandatory inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
