Udhagamandalam: Relief and restoration work in landslide-hit Nilgiris district were being implemented in an efficient and commendable manner, observed the Deputy Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, while responding to a memorable reception accorded to him at Charing Cross here by hundreds of people on Monday.
Expressing concern over the occurrence of the recent landslides and floods, he said that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had instructed not only the officials but also partymen to take steps on a war footing to help those affected.
Hoping that such a natural calamity does not recur, he said that houses were in the process of being provided to those who have been rendered shelterless.
Adverting to the different capacities in which he had visited this hill station earlier, Mr.Stalin said, “I prefer to come as one of the masses.”
The Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A.Raja and the Khadi Board Minister K.Ramachandran were present.
Mr.Stalin also addressed meetings in a few other places including Coonoor.
