For residents of Kongampalayam and a number of other surrounding villages, travelling on the road connecting their villages with Sathy Main Road continues to be a dreadful experience.
With the road literally reduced to rubble, the exasperation of vehicle users is beyond words.
Hundreds of residents in Kongampalayam and the nearby villages work in the factories and business establishments in Erode city and they depend on the stretch to reach their workplaces.
The road does not exist in most places and the layers have given way to stones. Drivers often lose control of the vehicles, residents said.
A majority of the children in the area study in schools in the city and frequently use the road. Students riding bicycles on the road often lose balance and fall, ending up with injuries, residents say.
Residents said that they had submitted a number of petitions to the district administration demanding immediate road repairs. “We did not hear anything positive from the officials till date,” they said.
They also claimed that they met the senior officials on a few occasions urging them to re-lay the road. But the administration was yet to take any steps to sort out the problem.
