Condemning the dumping of garbage by Corporation vehicles in the open and demanding that garbage already dumped be removed immediately, residents of Chettichavadi blocked the road near the plant here on Wednesday.

Every day about 150 tonnes of garbage collected from various wards are taken to the private-operated plant for processing.

Power crisis

But due to power crisis, the plant is not functioning fully and vehicles are not allowed inside the plant.

Hence, the garbage is dumped near the plant in the open, causing bad odour and spreading of diseases.

Such incidents have taken place many times, forcing the people to stage road block.

Corporation officials have promised them that the dumped garbage would be cleared in three months’ time.

Hence on Wednesday, they resorted to road block saying that the civic body failed to clear the garbage as promised. Police officials and civic body officials rushed to the spot and promised people that the garbage would be cleared soon.

Due to the road block, 12 vehicles carrying garbage lined up outside the plant.
