Ruptured six months ago at two points: residents
TIRUNELVELI: A group of residents of KTC Nagar near Palayamkottai submitted a petition to District Revenue Officer P. Ramanasaraswathi at a grievance day meeting at the Collectorate here on Monday seeking the immediate repairing of the ruptured drinking water pipeline in their area as the water profusely leaking from this pipeline has badly damaged the nearby roads.
The petitioners said the pipeline carrying drinking water to the overhead tank, having the capacity of 5 lakh litres, ruptured six months ago at two points and the water leaking from the pipeline had damaged the nearby road badly. Even as the minibus drivers avoid this route, the residents also cannot cross this stretch in the worst shape in their two-wheelers.
Similarly, residents of Selva Vignesh Nagar near Thatchanallur submitted a petition seeking the construction of drainage channel in their area.
Members of All India Progressive Women’s Association submitted a petition to DRO against the “irregularities” in the ration shop at Bharathi Nagar in Suththamalli. “Though this particular ration shop has been allotted to the women, one Shanmugavel Pandian is administering the shop. The cardholders questioning the quantity of the kerosene or sugar being sold in this shop are being threatened,” said state president of the association A. Thenmozhi.
The ration shop should be taken back by the government and appoint workers for it, she noted.
