Make an appeal to Nellai Collector

: Residents of Ariyanayagipuram Samaththuvapuram near Sankarankovil have appealed to the Collector to ensure regular supply of drinking water to their colony.

The petitioners said the residents of Samaththuvapuram were getting 10 pots of borewell water a week, which cannot be used for drinking or cooking purposes. Since the main pipeline of Tamirabharani Combined Drinking Water Scheme to Veerasigamani is passing via Samaththuvapuram main entrance, the officials should treat their colony as a ‘wayside habitation' and give water from this scheme by installing public taps.

The ration shop constructed on the Samaththuvapuram premises remains closed ever since it was inaugurated. Since the Samaththuvapuram residents, mostly from below poverty line families, have to take two buses to reach the ration shop, the Collector should instruct officials to inaugurate the ration shop at Samaththuvapuram itself.

Adequate number of buses should be operated via Samaththuvapuram so that the labourers can reach their workplace in time while their children can reach their schools without any problem.

Another group of residents from Kuruvankottai Street in Alangulam also submitted a petition to the Collector demanding a part-time ration shop for their area that has 175 families.

Members of Aathi Thamizhar Paeravai from Gandhiji Colony near Valliyoor submitted petition to the Collector demanding a cremation ground with proper accessibility.
