Residents of Murugampalayam in Avinashi taluk have to travel almost 2.3 km to reach the nearest hamlet of Uppilipalayam en route to the taluk headquarters at Avinashi. “Bus connectivity is also not there in the sector because of the poor condition of the road,” they pointed out.

Response

According to them, their repeated pleas to the authorities concerned have not yielded any redressal to the problem.

“We have now given a representation to the District Collector requesting to lay black top surface in the sector and awaiting a positive response,” R. Duraisamy, one of the residents in the area, told The Hindu.

The residents are of the opinion that the road stretch between Murugampalayam and Uppilipalayam deserved a ‘better treatment’ considering the presence of small scale power loom units and hectic agricultural activities.

Monsoon

In the latest representation to the district administration, the residents had pointed out that during monsoon, the poor road link became a hurdle on many occasions to carry patients to the Primary Health Centre at Uppilipalayam and also for students to reach the schools at Karuvalur and Avinashi.
