Over 50 residents of MGR Nagar staged a protest for nearly two hours in front of the ESI hospital in KK Nagar on Tuesday night.

The residents were agitated as the hospital allegedly delayed providing a medical certificate in connection with the assault of two students by policemen in MGR Nagar.

M. Dayalan, a Centre of Indian Trade Unions leader in K.K. Nagar, said that on Tuesday afternoon, a juvenile and 18-year old Arulanandan, both students, were standing outside their home in Nedunchezhian Street and talking. Two policemen on patrol allegedly assaulted the boys.

“We wanted to file a police case. But we needed a medical certificate to do so. The doctors at the hospital were not giving us a certificate and kept delaying the matter. So we organised an agitation,” said Dayalan.

The road roko started at 7.30 p.m. and went on till past 9 p.m.

Police complaint

will be filed

Dayalan added that they would go ahead and file a police complaint.
