The members of Kattunayakkan community on Saturday hoisted black flags in their homes at M.G.R. Nagar here, announcing boycott of Assembly elections. They were demanding Scheduled Tribes community status, for which they were fighting for quite sometime.

The members of community including women and children staged a protest with black flags at the colony highlighting their demand.

N. Veeran, one of the leaders said, though they had been struggling for so many years to get the status of Scheduled Tribe, the successive governments had not heeded to their demand.

Boycott

Hence, they had decided to boycott the Assembly elections. All people of the community living in Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai would boycott the elections, he said.
