Residents, and devotees of Vangal village in Karur district have risen against the proposed establishment of a TASMAC retail outlet in the vicinity of the famed Sri Pudhu Vangal Amman temple in the village saying the spiritual atmosphere will be vitiated.
In a petition submitted to Collector S.Jayandhi here on Monday, devotees, elder villagers, Kongu community leaders and social activists observed that the Sri Pudhu Vangal Amman temple had more than 6,000 kudippaadu families that revere the deity as their family hereditary goddess.
Besides being famous in the Kongu region, the temple attracts hundreds of devotee every day who organize and participate in numerous social and family functions at the mandapams constructed for the purpose.
Also, groups of women visit the temple every day for darshan, rituals, and events.
That being the case, establishment of a TASMAC retail outlet in the temple’s vicinity would mar the environment and vitiate the atmosphere .
Taking into account public safety, and public order, the district administration must order the relocation of the planned TASMAC retail outlet away from the temple.
Acknowledging the petition of the public, Ms.Jayandhi promised to look into the matter.
