Alleging irregularities in the relief distribution, around 100 families from the flood-hit colonies in the city gathered on the Collectorate premises on Monday asking the administration to be ‘fair' to them.

In their petition to Collector M. Mathivanan, the residents pointed out that about 200 houses were ‘selectively left out' during the distribution of cash, kerosene, clothes and other essential goods even though the preliminary estimation had taken the dwellings too into account.

The residents, mainly from P.K.R. Colony, Elango Layout and Pushpa Nagar, condemned the lethargic attitude of officials in distributing financial assistance. K. Susheela( 49), a residents of Elango Layout, claimed that people staying in the first floor were given the relief materials while those in the ground floor were left out.

Mohammed Elias, a resident of Pushpa Nagar, said there was no transparency in the preparation of flood-hit families' list that led to the present chaos.

The crowd dispersed only after the revenue officials assured them that their grievances would be forwarded to the State Government for getting adequate relief.
