SALEM: The Anaimaduvu reservoir located near Vazhapadi was thrown open for irrigation on Tuesday. Collector N. Mathinanvan opened the shutters of the dam.
A total of 5,011 acres would be irrigated using the water from the reservoir. The district administration planned to release 20 cusecs of water per day for a total of 10 days from Tuesday in the left canal of the dam and 20 cusecs for 30 days in the right canal. A total of 1,031 acres would benefit through the left canal and 3,980 acres through the right canal. Further, ten cusecs of water would be discharged into the Vashista River for ten days, a press release said.
The reservoir has a storage capacity of 267 mcft (million cubic ft). At 8.30 a.m., the storage was 211 mcft.
Senior revenue and public works officials were present.
