Passenger reservation for the proposed Duronto Express between Chennai Central and Madurai began on Thursday.

The 02205 Chennai Central-Madurai inaugural Duronto special will leave Chennai Central at 5 p.m. on December 15 and reach Madurai at 4 a.m. the next day. The 02206 Madurai-Chennai Central Duronto special will leave Madurai at 10.40 p.m. on December 16 and reach Chennai Central at 7.10 a.m., the next day.

According to a Southern Railway press release, the regular 22205 Chennai Central-Madurai air-conditioned Duronto Bi-Weekly Express will leave Chennai Central at 10.30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and reach Madurai at 7 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The 22206 Madurai-Chennai Central air-conditioned Duronto Bi-Weekly Express will leave Madurai at 10.40 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and reach Chennai Egmore at 7.10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The trains will have one first class, three two-tier and nine three-tier air-conditioned coaches. They will be run non-stop between Madurai and Chennai Central through Dindigul, Karur and Erode.

Special trains

The Southern Railway will also operate special trains between Tirunelveli and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Kurla in Mumbai) to clear rush during the winter season.

The 01067 Lokmanya Tilak-Tirunelveli weekly special will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 4.55 p.m. on December 15, 22 and 29 (Saturdays) and reach Tirunelveli at 5.05 a.m. on Mondays. The 01068 Tirunelveli-Lokmanya Tilak weekly special will leave Tirunelveli at 1 p.m. on December 17, 24 and 31 (Mondays) and reach Lokmanya Tilak at 11.45 p.m. on Tuesdays.

The trains will have one air-conditioned two-tier, two air-conditioned three-tier, 11 sleeper class, three general second class and two luggage-cum-brake van coaches. They will stop at Valliyur, Nagercoil Town, Eraniel, Kuzhithurai, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala, Kollam, Kayankulam, Chengannur, Tiruvalla, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Aluva, Thrissur, Shoranur Junction, Kuttipuram, Tirur, Kozhikode, Vadakara, Thalasery, Kannur, Payyanur, Kanhangad, Kasargod, Mangalore Junction, Udupi, Kundapur, Mookambika Road, Byndoor, Bhatkal, Murdeshwar, Karwar, Madgaon, Thivim, Sawantwadi Road, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Chiplun, Khed, Roha, Panvel, and Thane.
