Steps involved in research writing were elaborated during a day-long workshop on ‘Academic Research and Publishing' at the PRIST University, Kumbakonam campus.

Beginning with choosing the specialisation, researchers must be conversant with journal paper format, and the procedures in referencing and using citation of the concepts of other authors, the 40 participants were told during the national workshop. They were encouraged to analyse what and why of research, and the contributory factors. The participants were initiated into framing titles, writing abstracts, and referencing sample research papers, according to Srinivasan Alavandar, who handled a session.

T. Rajendran, general manager, BSNL, Kumbakonam, inaugurated the workshop following which the participants drawn from engineering colleges and universities in Tiruchi and Thanjavur district were involved in several activities. Siva Bhaskar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kumbakonam, delivered the valedictory address and distributed certificates to the participants. S. Audithan, Director at the University's Kumbakonam campus, honoured the resource persons.
