A group of college students working exclusively for the care of birds under the banner “Animal Rescuers” on Thursday released 20 parakeets (Psitticula Krameri) after rescuing them from those indulging in pet trade.According to Vinny R. Peter of Animal Rescuers, the volunteers from Bharathiar University, Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, Krishna Group of Institutions and Sree Narayana Guru College, had rescued 39 parakeets belonging to Rose ringed and Alexandrine parakeets.

On instructions from Conservator of Forests – Coimbatore Circle V.T. Kandasamy, District Forest Officer V. Thirunavukkarasu, Range Officer S.M. Natarajan and team nurtured the birds.

After rescuing the parakeets from various pet bird traders, they were maintained on forest college campus to regain their health.

After nurturing them, 20 of them were released into forest college campus and Sundakkamuthur tank.
