When the construction of a septic tank at Government High School at Munneerpallam was going on recently, the workers were seen using granite quarry powder along with cement instead of using river sand, a costly commodity nowadays. Since cement and granite quarry powder does not mix up completely and give adequate strength to the structure as being given by cement-river sand mixture, the septic tank will be naturally weak and cave in anytime when students accidentally stand on this structure.

The phrase ‘catch them young’ is not restricted to sports alone. Now, it is applicable to healthcare, especially heart care because cardio vascular diseases can affect people of all ages. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing one in three deaths.

“We need to protect future generation against heart disease and stroke by encouraging heart healthy living from early life”, according to A. Asai Thambi, Chief Civil Surgeon, Oddanchatram Government Hospital who spoke at an awareness camp on cardio vascular diseases held at Oddanchatram GH recently. “If you want to live with a healthy heart, you should not shirk physical activity and steer clear of unhealthy diet, stress, liquor and tobacco.”

Healthy eating - consumption of more vegetables and fruits – no to cigarette and liquor and 30 minute brisk walk will ensure healthy heart, he added.
