Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa had to endure some anxious moments at the council meeting held on September 4 when senior AIADMK councillors questioned the authorities on their inaction. A zone chairman accused that the Corporation officials were not attending to vital issues such as drinking water supply. “In the 25 council meetings I have attended so far, I raised the water issue 16 times. But nothing has been done to address the erratic water distribution problem,” he said.

There were more embarrassing moments for the Mayor. Another councillor said there were ‘work is in progress’ boards in his ward but he was not informed about what work was going on. “I could not answer to queries about the work to my ward residents,” he lamented.

All that the Mayor could say was: the Corporation will soon appoint more number of plumbers, fitters and electricians.
