Fixing of additional slips for more than 1.5 lakh family cards has begun in the district, Collector Darez Ahamed has said.
In an official release, he said that there were 1,59,124 cards in the district. While the exercise began at the 192 full-time shops on Tuesday, the 82 part-time shops would carry out the work on Fridays and Saturdays. In order to avoid rush at ration shops, every day 75 to 125 cards would be taken up for attaching the slips. The schedule of the cards to be taken up would be put up at the shop and hence card-holders could get the work done in accordance with the schedule. All the card-holders would have two or three dates for fixing the slip. The last date for the exercise is February 27.
The work commenced in all the ration shops in Tiruvarur district on Tuesday. S.Natarajan, Collector, inaugurated the work by handing over the ration card with new additional slips to a few consumers at the ration shop at south main street. N.Jeevakani, DRO, was present.
The fixing of additional slips to ration cards would continue till the end of February. The district administration and the cooperation department have made special arrangements for attaching the slips in all the fair price shops in the district, without any difficulty, an official release said .
