The Regional Transport Office should exercise caution while issuing fitness certificates to the buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC).

This was emphasised at a meeting of the Public Awareness Association of Udhagamandalam held here on Saturday following members pointing out that many of the vehicles were rickety and leaking.

Stating that during rainy seasons travel by the buses was an ordeal for the passengers, the meeting wondered why the transport officials were turning a blind eye.

Community associations like the Nakkubetta Welfare Sangam of the Badagas should take effective steps to prevent the conversion of farm lands into concrete jungles.

The participants regretted that banned tobacco items were freely available. Efforts to exempt political parties from the ambit of the Right to Information Act should be given up.

Association President G. Janardhanan presided.
