Residents of Aanaikkalpalayam near here have urged the district administration to remove the encroachment on a Government land in their village.

More than 50 residents from the village, who petitioned the Collector on Tuesday, said a few persons had allegedly occupied the Government land and erected a fence around it.

The Government land was located close to the village administration office and a fair price shop. The encroachment had forced a section of people in the village to take an alternative route to access the fair price shop and the office, the residents claimed.

Revenue Divisional Officer R. Sukumar ordered a detailed inquiry into the issue.
