Eighty seven students from 17 colleges participated in the competitions held at the district level

MADURAI: College-level literary competitions to mark the seventh anniversary of Madurai Kamban Kazhagam were held here on Tuesday. The competitions were among the many efforts of the Kazhagam to remind the public of Kamban’s greatness and importance in the realm of Tamil literature.

A lot of Kamban enthusiasts participated and popular debater Solomon Papiah presided over the proceedings and adjudicated the event. Eighty seven students from 17 colleges participated in the competitions held at the district level.

M. Suganya of Madura College and Mumtaj of A.K.R. Sourashtra Teachers’ College came first and second respectively while K. Moorthy of Arul Anandar College and M. Nithya of MAVMM Ayira Vysiar College shared the third prize in the elocution competition.

J. Jenitha, Fatima College, K. Alagumuthu of Sri Meenakshi Government College for Women and M. Uma of Madura College won the first three prizes in essay writing. P. G. Lakshmi of Fatima College, R. Meenakshi of Sathguru Sangeetha Vidyalayam and S. Anupriya of Fatima College came first, second and third respectively in the music competition.

The prizes were distributed by S. Seetharaman, vice-president, Madurai Kamban Kazhagam.
