A long pending proposal, if cleared by the State government, could pave the way for an excavation within the city to trace the historical facets of the Pandya rulers. The police department had submitted a proposal to the State to relocate the office of the Commissioner of Police from its current location close to the Meenakshi temple, to Alagar Kovil road. According to police sources, 2.5 acres of land were identified for the purpose and approval has been pending for five years. A fresh proposal was sent to the government and it is expected to get the green signal soon, the sources indicated.
