SALEM: Collector J. Chandrakumar has asked officials to relocate the town bus stops, which are closer to traffic signals and road junctions to avoid unnecessary traffic snarls in the city.

Presiding over the Road and Traffic Safety Committee meeting here on Thursday, the Collector said that many buses stopped just nearer to these traffic signals one after another and thus causing frequent traffic blockades. “This should be immediately avoided and for which the police and Corporation must take necessary steps to locate the bus stops away from traffic junctions,” he said.

The Collector also said that the district administration would impose a ban on the parking of omni buses on Omalur Road opposite New Bus Stand. He pointed out that parking buses was causing serious traffic problems.

The Corporation officials should allot space for these bus operators in the New Bus Stand and collect fees for the same. He instructed the police not to permit omni buses to park on Omalur Road.

Advertisement bill boards, which pose problems to free flow of traffic and obstruct the view of drivers, should be identified and removed immediately.

He asked the police to allot separate parking lots for cars and two-wheelers on Saradha College Road to avoid traffic congestion. Zebra crossings and road dividers would also be provided. Members and officials took part.
