cHENNAI: A 60-year-old woman was relieved of her gold jewellery in Mylapore on Thursday evening.

According to police, Lakshmi of Rangachary Garden was returning home from a temple when two persons intercepted her near the Mylapore tank. Stating that some anti-social elements were robbing passers-by in the area, the suspects took the woman to another lane and advised her remove her jewellery. One of them offered to pack the 16 sovereigns of gold chains, bangles and studs in a piece of paper. The two asked her to be safe and left the place. When Lakshmi opened the paper packet on reaching home, she found small stones and some sand. The Mylapore police have registered a case.
