TIRUCHI: With over 80 per cent of disabled children living in rural areas, the services of government and non-governmental organisations fail to reach the majority of disabled population owing to dearth of qualified workers who were willing to work in rural areas.

To meet the growing demand for trained workers in the field of disability and encourage workers to reach out to the people in rural areas, Holy Cross Service Society, Tiruchi, offers one-year diploma course in ‘community-based rehabilitation,’ in affiliation with Bharathidasan University. Students with a pass in class XII are eligible to apply for the course.

In a bid to encourage students who are willing to work in rural areas, the society offers a concession of Rs. 7,000 out of the course fees of Rs. 12, 000. For 20 economically backward women applicants, the society offers an additional scholarship of Rs. 5,000, which helps the women pursue the diploma free of cost. Candidates who want to apply for the programme can contact Holy Cross Service Society, No.3, Ettupattai Compound, Puthur, Tiruchi 17. Details could also be obtained by dialling 2771544.
