Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA P. Dillibabu, representing Harur constituency in Dharmapuri district, has urged Collector K. Vivekanandan to take necessary action to rehabilitate the family of eight, who were working as bonded labourers in a poultry farm in Tiruchengode in Namakkal district.

In his petition submitted to the Collector, Mr. Dillibabu demanded that the bonded labourers who escaped from the clutches of their employer should be given free house site patta, green houses under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme and compensation under the Bonded Labourers Act.

He said that the family of J. Siva of Kalaignar Nagar in Kelevalli Panchyayat in Harur constituency had pledged their land with a poultry farm owner for Rs. 45,000.

The employer also recovered 6 per cent interest for the loan extended to them apart from exploiting them for the past five years.

Speaking to The Hindu on Saturday over phone, Mr. Dillibabu demanded that the district administration and the Superintendent of Police take action against the poultry farm owner under the Tamil Nadu Women’s Act and the Bonded Labourers Act.
