8,262 vacancies in local administration agencies filled: Stalin
CHENNAI: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday distributed appointment orders to 2,025 regularised sanitary workers of the Chennai Corporation.
Of the 19,704 vacancies in various local administration agencies across the State, 8,262 have been filled up since the DMK came to power, Mr. Stalin said. About 2,100 of 4,942 vacancies were filled in municipalities and Corporations; 2,248 of 3,946 vacancies in town panchayats, 1,773 of 2,368 vacancies in Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and 176 of 655 vacancies in Chennai Metrowater.
In the Chennai Corporation, 2,025 sanitary workers who had been temporary staff would now serve as regular employees.
Bhagyam, who cleans roads for the civic body, said she was happy that after 14 years of service she had been given permanent employment.
In March, 500 persons were appointed to various departments of the Corporation on compassionate grounds.
About 80 teachers and 90 doctors and health department staff were recruited to fill vacancies. Mayor M. Subramanian, Municipal Administration Secretary K. Deenabandu, Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni, Corporation Council ruling party leader N. Ramalingam and opposition leader Saidai Ravi were present on the occasion.
