: Registration of residents under the National Population Register (NPR) is to commence in the K.V. Kuppam firka in Katpadi taluk on Friday. All persons above the age of five years should register themselves under NPR.

According to a release from P. Sankar Collector of Vellore, registration under NPR is mandatory for renewal of family cards, since the details in the NPR would form the basis for issue/renewal of family cards.

The exercise is being undertaken by the Census Department of the Government of India.

Those who register under NPR would be issued National Identity Cards.

The residents should take with them the acknowledgement slips issued to them at the time of door-to-door collection of details for NPR as part of Census 2011, when they attend the NPR registration camps.

The officials at the camp would collect from them the biometric details (ten finger prints, two iris prints and a photograph), the family card number, EPIC (electors’ photo identity card) number, Passport number, family card number, employment card number under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, PAN card number, bank account number and driving licence number.

Those left out during the Census-2011 enumeration or had migrated after the Census should fill a new form and submit it to officials at the time of NPR registration.

In such cases, the details given by them and their biometric details captured during the second round of the NPR registration camp will be verified, the Collector said.

Schoolchildren can register themselves on Saturdays and Sundays, the Collector said.
