Recent techniques and advancements in horticulture especially those relating to increasing productivity were explained to farmers at a refresher course conducted by the Horticulture Department at Pappakkapatti and Kanakkapillayur near here recently.

Experts from the Horticulture Crops Research Station, Thali, and Horticulture Department answered queries from the farmers with regard to various productivity improvement techniques available for raising vegetables in the region.

Inaugurating the programme the Assistant Director of Horticulture, Krishnarayapuram, Rajendran, listed the various programmes being sponsored by the Central and State governments for the benefit of horticulture farmers. He laid stress on taking soil samples for gainful utilisation of technology, enrolling as members of social welfare boards, installing drip irrigation and other micro irrigation management techniques. Assistant Horticulture Officer Nazir, Assistant Agriculture Officer Mookaian, Executive Officer of the Kulithalai Uzhavar Sandhai Abubaker and others presented technical sessions.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Puzhutheri, Horticure Subject Matter Specialist Dhanasekar explained advanced techniques in plant protection.

Executive Director of Gramium, a voluntary organisation, spoke on the occasion. Incentives and rewards were granted to 50 farmers and Assistant Agriculture Officer Narasimha Murthy proposed a vote of thanks.
