The concept of introducing reception officers at police stations to guide the complainants has proved to be a great hit, said C. Sylendra Babu, City Police Commissioner on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a function organised to mark the completion of one year of introducing the concept. Mr. Babu said that the idea of reception officers was to eliminate the fear or hesitancy of public to step in to the police station

In the last one year, as many as 44,284 people had benefitted through the reception officers in terms of proper guidance and solution to their problems.

Of the total number, 29,000 were people who visited police stations for passport police verification procedures.

Commissioner said that the 42 woman police constables who worked as reception officers in two shifts were posted at 15 police stations, three All Women Police Stations and three Traffic Investigation Wing units. These personnel were trained by private Human Resource firms on inter-personal skills, etiquettes, communication skills, leadership qualities and computer skills.
