CHENNAI: The seventh national conference of Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIFA), meeting here on Saturday and Sunday, urged the Central government to enact a Bill for separating religion from politics, judiciary, education and the administration.

The federation also demanded uniform civil code as per Article 44 of the Constitution and as per verdicts of the Supreme Court. Other resolutions adopted at the conference included withdrawing all religious subsidies, including Haj and temple subsidies, changes in the Special Marriage Act so as to make the registration of all marriages compulsory, steps to prevent construction of new religious worship centres at public places by encroachment, and measures to help more than a lakh of internally displaced Sri Lankan Tamils to settle permanently in their respective native places.

K.Veeramani, patron of the Tamil Nadu Rationalists Forum, inaugurated the meet. U.Kalanathan, national secretary, presented a report of the federation.
