Nagercoil: In order to facilitate the old, physically challenged and the weak to cast their votes without any difficulty on the polling day, ramps will be set up in all polling booths, said the Collector, Sunil Paliwal.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, he said that ramps had already been formed in 255 polling centres and works were going on in connection with the setting up of eth ramps in the remaining polling booths. However, the work would be completed before April 20. Saying that all the poll officers involved in election duty would be issued identity cards as per the direction of the Election Commission, Mr. Paliwal said that steps had been taken to issue such cards to those who did not already possess them.

He said that it was mandatory to wear the identity cards when they were going to attend election training sessions. He said that teachers would be involved in poll duty en masse as it was vacation time.

The Collector said that 2,11,661 voters had thus far been issued with EPIC cards in the district in the on-going campaign, which was started in February 22.

Link centres would be established in 19 places throughout the district, he said.
