Synthetic rubber flooring being laid at two badminton courts
Ramanathapuram: It is good news for sports lovers, particularly badminton players, of Ramanathapuram. Now, they can prevent injuries, which are imminent if they play on courts with wooden or ordinary floors.
The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu has begun the much-awaited work of forming non-toxic synthetic rubber flooring at badminton courts located at Jegan Suresh Memorial Hall. Forming synthetic surface for badminton courts is the first-of-its kind work in the southern districts of the State.
Two badminton courts are being converted as synthetic courts. Out of the estimated cost of Rs.7.50 lakh, the SDAT has allotted Rs.1.87 lakh. The Ramanathapuram Officers’ Club is giving Rs.1.40 lakh. Similarly, the District Panchayat Chairman, Ravichandra Ramavanni, has allotted Rs.1.50 lakh under the State Planning Fund.
B. Sivakumar, District Sports Officer, said that it was a dream come true for sport lovers. It was because of the collective efforts of sports lovers and SDAT that the facility is being established.
He said that the synthetic floor would protect players from ankle, knee, spine and head injuries. It was maintenance-free and highly durable too.
