As part of the plan to develop Ramakkal Lake as one of the tourism and entertainment spot for people of Dharmapuri, District Collector R. Lilly initiated steps including beautification and development around the lake at over Rs.1.25 crore with the public contribution of Rs. 33.69 lakh and the government contribution of Rs. 67.39 lakh last year.
While the work around the lake for about 2 km has been going on in full swing, the Collector has initiated steps to clean the surroundings of the lake by launching a mass cleaning programme under the Nirmal Bharath Abhiyan Scheme on Wednesday. Students of Varuvan Vadivelan Engineering College, Pachamuthu College of Arts and Science for Women, women SHG members, and workers of Dharmapuri Municipality participated.
Under the MGNREGS scheme, desilting of lake and planting of saplings around the lake at Rs. 25 lakh have already begun.
On the occasion, Ms. Lilly said that the administration would make efforts to plant more saplings around the lake to make it a bird sanctuary in the future.
