To encourage differently abled children
To arrest the dropout rate among differently abled children, an awareness rally under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme was taken out in the city on Tuesday.
The rally wended its way through many important thoroughfares in the urban centre.
The participants, mainly students, carried placards stressing the need for continuing education and the ills of being a dropout.
In addition to this, the rallyists also asked the parents of these special children to enrol the youngsters in schools immediately, so that they could benefit from education.
This they claimed would ensure a good future for them.
Under the provisions of Right to Education Act 2009, an inclusive scheme for all children including the differently abled is being implemented under the SSA scheme in Salem district.
Five special teachers have been appointed in each block in order to teach the special children.
Protection care centres are also functioning. Anganwadi workers, members of Self Help Groups and teachers have been trained specially to teach these children.
The objective, a volunteer said, is to improve the skill management of these children and to develop their self confidence.
